How are Stix helping schools across the UK?

Schools across the country have started using Stix to help teach children strategies to manage their emotions, using mindfulness techniques to reduce anxiety, improve focus and create calmer working environments.

Real Stories, Real Impact

Case Study

Supporting Exam Stress & Anxiety

“Stix helped me relax my nerves during my SATs exams”

Lucy, 11

Lucy felt the pressure of his SATs exams, so much so that she had to leave the exam half way through due to anxiety.

Fortunately, the SENCO had their Stix at hand, and after a quick breathing exercise, Lucy was able to return to her exam and finish his paper.

Managing Emotions

"It's good to have something to hold and speak to me when I'm upset"

Sophie, 8

The tangible, soft-touch nature of the Stix Remotes helps children like Sophie to focus on something physical to take their mind of whatever is upsetting them, whilst the calming activities teach them ways to let go of any stress and relax.

Teachers' Voices on Stix

What do teachers think?

Your experience of Stix?

We love using Stix at Dormers Wells, from supporting children with neurodiversity challenges, to practising mindfulness as a whole class, they’re designed for everyone!

What benefits did your pupils experience?

The benefits were very obvious after they used the Stix. One child in particular, who was getting anxious during the year 6 SATS exams and had to be removed for a short period from the tests - The Belly Breathing and Rainbow Painting activities really helped to calm her down and made her feel comfortable about restarting her exam.

How did you use Stix at Elvington?

If an angry or frustrated child was identified, I would send them to the sensory room, where Stix was located, to give them time to unwind. It was a really effective tool as it allowed pupils to regulate their own emotions independently, which is pretty impressive, and allowed me to carry on teaching.

Can you give an example of how Stix was used in your school?

One child in particular used the Stix after returning from a football match angry and frustrated. He used the Stix to calm down and focus, returning to the classroom calm and ready to start his learning. You could instantly see that he had better control of his emotions after using Stix.

Elvington Primary, Kent

What did you think of the Stix Remotes?

It has been wonderful to be able to use Stix with some of my Year 1 and 2 children. The stress and pressure we put on children from a very young age can be very overwhelming, but the Stix activities help relieve some of that stress and teach them skills that they can use throughout their school careers and in daily life.

How did you pupils find them?

Pretty much straight away the positive engagement with the app was apparent; both boys LOVED building their monster, giving it a name and having a look to see what cool features we could work towards buying. I think Stix have a very important place within a primary setting and I would recommend them to other teachers.
